Chic but effortless cardigan with pockets

Level ●●○○○ (2 of 5)

How to work the knitwear: Effortless stockinette stitch and large needles make this project accessible to all skill levels. Round-cornered pockets complete the cardigan, giving it a unique look, but you can skip them for a simpler finish.

The Lotte cardigan has a cropped hem and puffy sleeves, so you can wear it with high-waisted pants or jeans and tuck the hem in, or even over dresses, thanks to the lovely sleeves. Following current fashion, the sleeves are intentionally extra-long and cuffs wide.

The Lotte cardigan is worked seamlessly top down. First, cast on stitches for the neckline and work the raglan yoke, separate sleeve stitches from the body and work the body. Then, work the sleeves. Finally, pick up stitches from the front and neck and work the button band vertically. If you want, you can add pockets.

The cardigan is knitted from DK weight yarn with mohair to give it a fluffy texture, and it feels wonderfully substantial when worn. The button band is firm because it’s double-knitted.

Size guide

The cardigan is designed to be worn with approx. 10-25 cm / 4-9.75” of positive ease at bust - so the size doesn’t have to be too precise. First, measure your own bust (or your widest upper body part).  Then, add 10-25 cm / 4-9.75” to your bust circumference. You can also measure your favourite cardigan - the size depends on whether you prefer an oversized or a more fitted style. Compare that number to the finished measurements (below) and choose the closest size.

Pictured in size S - my bust 85 cm / 34”.
